Alexandra House opened 12 years ago and comprises a Supported House for assessment and rehabilitation with 10 bedrooms and 1 respite room.
The ground floor of Alexandra House has 4 bedrooms, a shared kitchen/diner, shared lounge, bathroom and toilet. The first floor has 6 bedrooms with a shared kitchen, lounge/diner and 2 bathrooms.
The house is centrally-heated and equipped with cookers, microwaves, fridges, freezers and all other usual household equipment. There is a laundry on-site, a garden with outdoor furniture and a bicycle shed.
Each resident has their own room, which contains (all) furniture, sink and bedding. Residents provide their own food, plan menus and cook for themselves with staff input whenever needed. Staff encourage residents to manage their own medication where appropriate.
Those staying pay a weekly accommodation charge to cover utilities and, if eligible, this is supplemented by Housing Benefit/Suporting People money. Residents are also responsible for cleaning the communal areas of Alexandra House 1 day per week.
As part of their rehabilitation programme, residents are expected to carry out daily activities outside the house on at least 3 days a week. This can include attendance at day centres, voluntary work or employment.
Planned Respite Facility
The respite room is situated seperately from the other residents in a quiet area and shares facilities with the staff. Service Users requiring respite can come for a maximum of 2 weeks, 4 times a year. Respite can be booked in advance. Those using this facility need to bring sufficient medication and food, or money to buy food, for the length of their stay.
Alexandra House is staffed 24 hours a day. From 11.00 pm to 8.00am each day there is a member of staff sleeping-in, available to assist in emergencies.
